About HYBE’s T&D Stories

IST HYBE Labels unveiled a captivating 5-part series named “HYBE’s T&D Stories” on their YouTube channel on December 19. Renowned as a powerhouse in the K-pop scene alongside the Big 3 (SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and YG Entertainment), this multi-label corporation is celebrated for fostering transparency between idols and their devoted fanbase.

Within HYBE, a hub for K-pop’s biggest stars such as BTS, SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, TXT, ENHYPEN, and NewJeans, the platform seized the chance to offer fans a glimpse beyond mere music and celebrity status.

Within the multifaceted operations of HYBE and its affiliated labels like BIGHIT MUSIC, Pledis Entertainment, Source Music, ADOR, and others, certain systematic approaches operate under a unified umbrella. The trainee development process stands as a prime example.

The Training and Development team at HYBE prioritizes exposing new talents to diverse music styles, drawing inspiration from BTS leader RM. During BTS’s training period, RM curated various playlists, a practice that was highlighted in BTS’s memoir. Shin Seon Jeong, the Head of T&D, observed TXT’s progress as a result of this approach and integrated it into HYBE’s system. Eunchae from LE SSERAFIM also stressed the importance of identifying different genres during training. TXT members Soobin and Taehyun praised this method for expanding their musical comprehension, emphasizing its role in forming emotional bonds with music—a crucial aspect for aspiring musicians. RM’s innovative approach profoundly influences HYBE’s artist development, promoting authenticity and encouraging musical exploration.

HYBE’s most exceptional trainees

Delving deeper into the trainee culture, the training and development team at HYBE also highlighted a few idols whose remarkable journey stood out even during their trainee phase.

1. BTS’ Jimin

Jimin’s exceptional dedication made him a standout figure among BTS members during their training period. His unwavering commitment and serious demeanor impressed the trainers, reflecting his steadfast devotion. Despite his foundation in dance, Jimin actively evolved his style to meet the energetic demands of K-pop choreography. His incredible advancement during regular evaluations astonished the staff, underscoring his remarkable development.

Jimin’s path as a trainee had a far-reaching effect that went beyond just his personal growth. In a HYBE video, RM highlighted the significant influence Director Shin Seon Jeong had. RM recognized her pivotal support for Jimin’s debut with BTS as essential, acknowledging that without her backing, it might have posed a potential obstacle for the group.

2. TXT’ Yeonjun

Yeonjun from Tomorrow X Together swiftly rose as an unmistakable standout, hailed for his natural flair and unparalleled talent. His extraordinary abilities garnered immediate recognition, earning him the revered status of a “legendary” trainee within the company.

3. ENHYPEN’s Sunghoon and Niki

When it comes to ENHYPEN, the team at BE:LIFT Lab praises Niki, also known as Nishimura Riki, a standout Japanese member, for demonstrating extraordinary dancing abilities from a remarkably young age, leaving the HYBE’s T&D team in awe.

During their discussion, they delved into the hurdles faced by ENHYPEN’s Sunghoon as he transitioned from a figure skater to an idol. Detailing his challenges, the team highlighted Sunghoon’s athletic physique, which, from a dancer’s perspective, lacked the necessary flexibility. Consequently, adapting to the demands of idol choreography posed a significant challenge for Sunghoon. However, he managed to triumph over these obstacles admirably.

4. LE SSERAFIM’s Yunjin

Yunjin, a member of LE SSERAFIM among female idols, stood out notably to one of the staff members for her outstanding qualities. Having been part of IZ*ONE previously, her solid foundation in singing and dancing skills distinguished her. Acknowledging Yunjin’s innate talent and steadfast determination, the HYBE staff customized her lessons and training to amplify her existing abilities rather than commencing from square one. This flexible approach aimed at fine-tuning and perfecting her skills, leveraging her natural talents and relentless ambition to achieve success.
